Tips on Writing a Speech
Tips on Writing a SpeechWriting a speech for an occasion like wedding reception, graduation ceremony or dinner party can be time consuming and sometimes extremely nerve-racking. It is no wonder that many people avoid writing their speeches and shy away from speeches at all, yet it is not the end of the world, and there are some important steps to remember that will help you come up with a great speech. Before you even begin the actual writing process, you need to take stock of what you want to say and go from there. If you already know your speech topic, then you are halfway there. However, if you do not, you will need to brainstorm the entire speech before you start writing. The purpose of this is to allow you to feel more comfortable with what you write and you will come up with your own words and ideas that may seem to be rather strange at first, but you will find when you read them back in your head that they make sense. Also, if you are unsure of your own ability to present the sp eech in an effective manner, then you can simply re-write the speech as many times as you need to until you become comfortable with the presentation. This is what we call refining.Always start off with a one or two sentence introduction. Then, continue to add to the paragraph as you proceed. It is not necessary to write everything at once, just enough to give the reader an idea of the nature of the speech. If you are having trouble coming up with the right introduction, then you can either put the speech into a question or have your audience guess what the issue is before you begin. One important thing that you should always remember when you are writing a speech is to stick to the facts. If you wish to say something along the lines of, 'Bob has been a huge contributor to the stock market,' then stick to the facts and the reality. If you wish to say, 'Bob is a jerk because he does care about me,' then you can get away with that statement as well, and people will not doubt your sincer ity.Really think about your audience before you even start your speech. Do they like you? Do they trust you? This is why it is very important to have personal touches on your speech. Make sure you add a few anecdotes or comments to give yourself a little more room to be creative. If you feel that you can make your speech interesting, and people are not necessarily going to agree with you, then that is fine too, but remember that people are there to have fun and not to get upset with you.As a result, you want to have a special time when you are giving your speech. Plan it ahead of time, and have fun.
